Web and Graphic Designer - IDS - Lebanon

Immediate opening for a talented Website, user interface and graphic designer who has both creative genius and strong knowledge of HTML/CSS coding, with an excellent knowledge of Macromedia Flash and Adobe Photoshop.

This position requires a detailed-oriented, highly energetic and motivated promoter of web-technology in an Intranet and Internet setting. Must have excellent communications skills and be highly proficient in web-content development, with the ability to work together as part of a dynamic team. Responsibilities include working closely with business groups to build positive relationships, analyzing business needs and project planning. The Senior Visual Designer is responsible for the creation of all online visual design, including typography, visual concept, logo and icon design for the Internet and interactive platforms. They effectively communicate and coordinate with the information architect, writer and production artists to ensure that the visual design communicates the desired message, and functions successfully for varying technical and performance specifications. The candidate must be capable of leading the creative aspects of a project and have demonstrated strong business acumen .Fluency in current graphic design practices and web production software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe after Effects .Knowledge of Web site structure and functionality. Understanding of and experience in corporate branding, layout, colour theory and typography in both print and digital media. Ability to effective manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure .Ability to work independently on strategic issues with client, capable of managing fairly complex projects
Specific Skills

Experience in a Visual Design role
- Exceptional portfolio, with focus on graphic design for web, mobile web, and/or mobile apps.
- Comfort working across several agile development teams, collaborating with many individual designers and product leads along the way.
- Excellent communication skills. From napkin sketches to high-fidelity comps, you can get your visual and non-visual ideas across to a variety of audiences.
- BA/BS degree in Graphic Design, Architecture, Software Product Design, or equivalent.
- Experience in UX / interaction design would be extra nice. Strong technical skills would be a plus, too.
- Ability to create superior, original designs for the Web
- Strong design style, including creative design solutions within the constraints of the Internet.
- Strong conceptual skills, including online software concepts and online experience concepts

Position Description
The Space studio faculty will be an artist, designer, educator and active professional who will teach in the Design Foundation Program. This position is responsible for leading and teaching the foundation-level curriculum for the “Space” studio. The Space studio is designed to cultivate the ability to think, perceive, visualize, design and build in three dimensions. This position will utilize a contemporary mix of experimental design studio processes to develop a student’s ability to understand, envision and communicate effectively about space, objects, scale and the relationship of the body to the built environment. Students will acquire knowledge and skills in building, constructing, fastening and shaping via hands-on projects that introduce tools, materials, and specialized techniques vital to understanding three-dimensions.

The Space studio is built on the following principles; spatial problem solving that engages the student in spatial thinking; ability to combine conceptual thinking with development of tangible form; ability to understand and master principles of construction; technical/analytical drawing, exploration of a large variety of materials, conceptual design thinking, design and prototyping, documentation and communication; critical design thinking; innovative approaches and strategies that enable the student to understand how to utilize and apply the learning in future designs.

Applicants with expertise in design, architecture and sculpture are invited to apply from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds. This position will join an active Design Foundation faculty team which has four full-time faculty, each responsible for one area of the four pillars of the Design Foundation curriculum that represent basic tenets of Art and Design: Drawing, Surface (2D), Space (3D) and Time (storytelling through media). This position will work closely with the faculty and the Director of the program to develop and build a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to the curriculum. All faculty contribute to a culture of learning through participation and support for accreditation standards, pursuit of professional creative research, and participation in faculty governance, service, student advising, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will work in a team oriented small-school environment with practicing, experienced and dedicated educators. Successful candidates must have an MFA or terminal degree in design or related field and a minimum of two years teaching experience in art and design related to the principles of the Space Studio. Candidates with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level with an established record of accomplishments in research or professional work in design strongly preferred. Strong digital, collaborative and communication skills are required. Experience teaching introductory studio level is preferred. Experience or potential for working in a culturally diverse work environment is required. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU and VCUQatar.

Graphic Designer / Production Assistant - Mixed Media

As the two positions of Graphic Designer and Production Assistant will be merged into one job role, your primary task will be to oversee creative layouts of ads, leaflets, brochures, invitations and the flagship title, Canvas magazine and produce professional print-ready hi-res files in Adobe InDesign, in addition to the following skills:

- Proficiency in In Design, Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Photo retouching and colour correction (taking into consideration the type of printing and the paper used)
- Knowledge of Packaging:
. Checking high-res images and retouching
. Ability to trace efficient die cuts
. Attention to detail: checking colour uniformity, font style, size, etc.
. Checking pagination
- Prepress settings and procedure of offset and digital printing:
. Ability to check printed samples and sheets and perform any necessary corrections with a focus on replacing the right pages and maintaining the correct pagination.
. A keen interest in graphic design and an artistic flair. A team player, ability to multi-task, ;take high-resolution photographs when required and handle printing requests.
. Applicant must be fluent in English.
. Experience in Arabic design is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Additional notes concerning work on Canvas magazine
- Checking on a wide range of images and reporting analyzing their size, quality and dimensions.
- Working closely with the Art Director and Editorial department to fulfill main tasks and take of any other tasks as needed, including files from the archives, pdfs, print jobs and any- necessary graphic related tasks.
- Finalizing articles to place on the magazine book after completing the notes mentioned above, and maintaining an eye for detail as changes in some sections may affect others.
- Creating mock-ups and clearly briefing the Production Manager on any special operations, supplying each brief with printouts and a description to the job.
